Be Spatial'11
Plan to spend the day with colleagues, learning, sharing experiences and networking to stay current with the latest in spatial data, applications and solutions around Ontario. As always, this will be an information-packed day and this year, we have a special treat for those attending the event - a presentation and sampling of the product from the Black Creek micro-brewery.

Geospatial Go Green
URISA and GITA hosted a successful summer event on July 7, 2009. Over 50 participants enjoyed presentations followed by a round of golf at
Hornby Glen Golf Course.
Keynote speaker, Shorah Elhami, one of four co-founders, spoke passionately about the GISCorps, URISA's international volunteer program that matches geospatial skillsets with communities in need. Shorah's enthusiasm for this initiative was evident throughout her well-received presentation.
Parallel sessions continued throughout the day, covering a broad range of topics. For the first time, URISA-OC members from the vendor community were also invited to submit papers, and the program offered a good balance of product information and implementation details for specific initiatives.
The OGC Web Map and Web Feature Services offer an alternative, by providing a mechanism to dynamically produce, serve and share compiled maps for display or spatial features for analysis, on demand from an enterprise GIS database.
Few corporations have the budget or the resources to collect and maintain all the diverse data sets required to conduct business. With an increasing dependency on inter-agency, and multi-agency business solutions, WMS and WFS can ease the workload on data administrators, allowing for custom data solutions tailored to fit specific business requirements.
Today’s presentations outline how these technologies are being used to address the need to access spatial data, easily, quickly and repetitively, to address real world business needs.
Attendees at the Fall program event held on October 21, 2008 heard how companies and organizations manage large, organization-wide implementation or upgrades and how GIS fits in to their overall IT strategy, and PM process.
The morning program event included speakers from the Information Technology and GIS fields discussing software and legal issues. Speakers included:
Peter Neve and Adrian Brown from FieldWorker Products Limited presented about their field based technology;
Lou Milrad, a lawyer with Ridout and Maybee LLP, discussed legal issues in database ownership and licensing; and
Don DeGenova from DMTI Spatial, spoke about their partnerships with academia.
Following the round of golf, the members met in the Club House for some refreshments and raffles. Prizes were donated by GDT Canada, ESRI Canada, Teranet, Intergraph Canada, and URISA Ontario Chapter.
A special thanks to our sponsors DMTI Spatial, ESRI Canada, Intergraph Canada, Teranet and URISA-Ontario Chapter, for their donations. The generous support of our sponsors ensure that the URISA Golf Day is a success.
URISA Ontario Chapter would like to acknowledge the generous support from our sponsors. The 2002 sponsors included:
