May 2005 Update

We would like to invite you to attend the seminar "An Introduction to Writing Winning Geomatics Proposals" on Monday, June 13, 2005, from 08:30 to 16:30 at the Westin Hotel in Ottawa, Ontario.

The seminar is a joint project involving the Canadian Council of Land Surveyors, the Canadian Institute of Geomatics (CIG), the Geomatics Industry Association of Canada and GeoConnections, and it is being held during the CIG's annual conference. March 2005 Update

With many accomplishments realized across the country over the past five years, the first phase of GeoConnections' activities are now wrapping up. The current initiative will sunset March 31, 2005.

On February 23, the federal government tabled its 2005 budget and demonstrated a continued commitment to further building the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure and promoting its use, particularly in key priority areas such as health, the environment/sustainable development, public safety, cities and communities. The new federal government investment of $60 million over the next five years is intended to maintain the momentum achieved by the initial program and to continue leveraging the efforts of partners.

Over the next few months, details regarding the redesigned GeoConnections program will be worked out. The next phase of GeoConnections is expected to adopt a more user-focused approach. A full description of the new initiative will be unveiled later this year, when the redesigned program is officially launched.

La première phase du programme GéoConnexions, avec ses nombreuses réalisations à travers tout le pays au cours des cinq dernières années, arrive à terme. L'initiative dans sa forme actuelle prendra fin le 31 mars 2005.

Dans son Budget 2005 livré le 23 février, le gouvernement du Canada affirme sa volonté de poursuivre la construction de l'Infrastructure canadienne de données géospatiales et d'en promouvoir l'utilisation, tout particulièrement dans des domaines clés tels que la santé, l'environnement et le développement durable, la sécurité publique, les municipalités et les collectivités. Le nouvel investissement quinquennal fédéral d'une valeur de 60 millions de dollars vise à maintenir l'élan imprimé par le programme initial et à faire fructifier l'apport des partenaires.

Les détails du nouveau programme GéoConnexions seront définis au cours des prochains mois. On peut s'attendre à ce que la prochaine phase soit plus résolument axée sur les utilisateurs. Une description complète de cette initiative sera présentée un peu plus tard cette année, lorsque que le nouveau programme sera lancé officiellement.
