Categories - Best Challenges Awards Summary

Best Public Sector GIS

The Best Public Sector GIS award is presented to organizations that have demonstrated the use of GIS in improving effectiveness and efficiency in enterprise GIS for public sector operations. The award is open to all levels of Governments in Ontario. It is designed to increase awareness of the use of GIS in improving effectiveness and efficiency of public sector operations.

Best Web GIS

The Best Web GIS award is presented to organizations that have demonstrated advanced internet/intranet mapping services that enable publishing and sharing of geographic information through the integration of multiple business systems.

Innovation in GIS

The Innovation in GIS award is presented to individuals or organizations who have newly demonstrated or refined innovation in GIS and geospatial technology through a specific piece of work or project.

If you are interested in joining the challenge, we invite you to email your intent (prior to March 2) to complete the challenge form (required by April 5, 2012). This will enable us to keep you informed of details regarding the challenge and assist you with any questions.

Best Public Sector GIS Challenge

The Challenge is now open to select the Best Public Sector GIS. The challenge is open to all levels of Governments in Ontario. It is designed to increase awareness of the use of GIS in improving effectiveness and efficiency of public sector operations.

Best Public Sector GIS Challenge Nomination Form

Eligibility

Public Sector GIS Implementations that qualify for the challenge include those that have implemented GIS throughout their organization and have made GIS data, tools and applications available to a majority of their staff.
 
Category 2

Best Web-GIS Challenge

The challenge is now underway to select the 2012 Best Web-GIS Winner. The Challenge is open to all non-commercial organizations in Ontario. It is designed to increase awareness of Internet/Intranet mapping services that enable publishing and sharing of geographic information internally within an organization or externally with the public.

Eligibility

Web-GIS implementations that qualify for the Challenge include those that have implemented web-based GIS technologies throughout their organization in order to meet their particular business requirements.
 
Eligible Internet/Intranet mapping services for the Challenge include live map services for presenting geographic data, as well as spatial solutions that offer more advanced tools for applications.

Note: Judges may request remote access to your Web-GIS Site during the evaluation process. For intranet applications a power point presentation may need to be provided.

Category 3

Innovation in GIS Award

Summary of Award

The Innovation in GIS award is open to all URISA-Ontario Chapter members. This award is intended to recognize individuals and/or organizations that demonstrate a new or refined innovation in the fields of GIS and Geospatial technology.

Innovations can be in many unique areas including applications, software, data, modelling, workflows, etc. specifically, this award is intended to provide an opportunity for members to showcase a specific piece of work or a project. As such, this Award seeks to recognize te significant contributions member organizations are making in the use of Geospatial technology whether their innovation focuses on improving the day to day workflow of a small group of users or if it has the potential to impact an entire industry.

Please note: Where the form states: "Submissions may not be made for commercially available/vendor purchased hardware or software", the intent is that submissions may not be made solely on the basis of contestant having purchased commercially available "off the shelf" software, hardware or data products, but rather the submission should outline the innovative manner in which such products are being used to solve a business problem.

  • March 2, 2012 - Notice of intention to submit an entry must be received by the Awards Coordinator members@urisaoc.ca/;
  • Only entries completed in full must wil be considered by the Awards Coordinator members@urisaoc.ca/;
  • All entries must be submitted using the official challenge entry form;
  • You can submit for more than one award.
  • Submissions not complying to the official entry form or incomplete will be disqualified;
  • A Contest Coordinator will confirm that your entry has been received;
  • Judges may request remote access to any web components during the evaluation process (early April). 
  • Judges may require a powerpoint for judging and posting on the website after the annual meeting.
  • Entries must be submitted to Awards Coordinator: members@urisaoc.ca
