GIS Grows Up - Integration of GIS with Corporate Solutions

In 2008, Kitchener GIS took its first big step to being directly tied into our new SAP Financial system, RIVA our new Asset reporting software and CityWorks our new work order management system. This resulted in some major changes to what GIS staff do and when GIS staff do it.

Although GIS has provided data to our OnPoint (Corporate GIS Application) for years, what is different now is that GIS feeds the assets daily to these other systems so that budget data can be assigned by Finance staff and work orders can be assigned by the Operation staff. This coordination meant tightening up service level agreements, writing new agreements, getting buy in from staff, tightening up data delivery schedules for inputting proposed assets, changing status as the assets are constructed and removing assets when reconstruction is required.

This presentation will demonstrate some of the unique ways we have achieved this interaction and some of the pros and cons encountered along the way.

ESRI Canada’s Enterprise License Agreements (ELA) for small local government & South-West Ontario update

ESRI Canada’s Small Local Government ELA program provides access to ESRI GIS technology with a straightforward, tiered pricing schedule. ESRI Canada offers this ELA program specifically to smaller jurisdictions. This allows unlimited deployments of selected core ArcGIS software throughout the organization. This ELA program for small local governments is intended to eliminate budgetary constraints that might hinder small governments from gaining access to GIS technologies.

ESRI Canada will also provide an update on some of the most unique GIS projects in Canada! And many of them are occurring in SW Ontario.

Data Integration - Streetscape and Parcels

Over the past year iLOOKABOUT and Teranet Inc. have collaborated to integrate the unique iLOOKABOUT StreetScape visual data intelligence solution and digital imagery into the new GeoWarehouse Online 2009 service, launched on February 1, 2009 by Teranet.

GeoWarehouse is a product which provides access to Real Estate boards and other land professionals in Ontario, with comprehensive property information including ownership, assessment, sales history, neighbourhood sales, and maps. The integration of iLOOKABOUT StreetScape makes GeoWarehouse a more robust, visually enhanced product that enables efficient research of properties by front property views from the convenience of the personal desktop, accessing a reliable 24/7 online application.

This presentation will provide an overview of the integration of StreetScape digital imagery and services into the GeoWarehouse Online, and how various integration concerns have been addressed by leveraging web services technology.

Conservation Authorities and GIS Management

Conservation Authorities were established within the past 60 years in the province of Ontario. Conservation Authorities are responsible to municipalities for maintaining a watershed flood warning and management system and supporting municipalities in reviewing planning and development applications in flood and erosion hazard areas.

Though managed at different levels based on the pressures on urban and rural land uses each Conservation Authority works with the local communities to ensure conservation, restoration and responsible management of water and land in their watershed.

Updating and managing data is a large component of supporting the work being completed by a conservation authority. The presentation will provide a summary of some of the data and processes being used that assist the day to day operations of a conservation authority.
